Maryland Thoughts and Other Musings

Some quick thoughts on the kicking of puppies that occurred at College Park on Saturday:

  • We heartily apologize for ragging on people for not attending this game. That was, by far, the worst pre-game experience of my life. There is literally no where to park and tailgate if you don’t have a pass.

We tried something called a “Cash Lot.” A sign noted that it was $15 to park. We roll up, ready to pay… you need a parking pass to pay to park there!!! We had to drop our tailgating stuff off there and park in the garage next door. Needless to say, we were pretty livid. To calm ourselves, we drank beer for three hours.

To summarize, College Park is the worst place in history. No wonder good recruits don’t want to go there. Get a freaking commuter lot.

  • The game is kind of a blur (see “we drank beer for three hours”), but clearly we kicked ass. Stupid Maryland. They are just awful.

  • The place was absolutely a home game. At one point as we were “tailgating”, we decided to count the number of Maryland fans. We got to nine. We then counted eleven Hokie tents. It was a little absurd.

  • The Maryland fans we did encounter couldn’t have been nicer. But honestly, what are they going to do, trash talk about their pathetic team? Had they started a fight, they’d have been out-numbered 5 to 1.

Not much more to go over in this game. No one thinks the “offense is back” or anything else. We beat a bad team. Don’t look too much into it.

A few other notes:

  • Tech will be playing Cincinnati at FedEx Field in 2012. Another trip to a stadium that doesn’t know how to handle traffic issues. But the nation finally gets that 2009 Orange Bowl rematch it’s been demanding.

  • The NC State and UVA games are both announced as 3:30 kickoffs. For the NC State game, this is welcome as it will be a home game. For the UVA game, this is welcome as it will be a home game. Didn’t really think Tech would be playing in front of so many Hokies for their last three games of the year.

  • Speaking of UVA, they are playing Clemson this week. A win by the Tigers, and they are headed to their first ACC Championship game. Clemson, of course, lost to Maryland earlier this year. The ACC: Where Crazy Shit Happens.

  • Anyone else half rooting for Notre Dame to get their shit together so we can face them in the Gator Bowl? I know it hurts to root for them now, but we have never actually played them. One of the NEZ’s most hated teams, and we’ve never actually faced them. So Charlie, figure out how to actually play football, then forget it all again come January 1.

That is all. NC State this week. And basketball has officially started. We promise, we're going to be covering it. We all need heroes...

Those gloves are freaking incredible. If the same guy designed those as well as the redonkulous uniforms we wore, my head might explode.
