Hold on, I need to throw up again. We as Tech fans have come to a shocking and unthinkable conclusion. I never thought, in a million years, that I would be saying this. Get a trashcan ready, because you might need it.
-----------
Trashcan ready? OK, I can wait. Good? Alright. Here it is.
We have to root for UVA this weekend.
Yeah, I know. How fucked up is that? But let me explain.
Georgia Tech plays UVA on Saturday. We need GT to lose another conference game and then we need to win out. UVA, with their suddenly "improved" squad, may be the best chance for an upset of the Yellowjackets. Not that we can rely on UVA, but Wake and Duke don't represent any stiffer competition. Adding on to this is the fact that UVA is jacked up about leading the Coastal right now, the game is at UVA, and GT is coming off a huge win against...us... and they might be feeling a tad cocky because they beat the best team in the ACC last week. UVA needs to strike while the iron is hot.
Now you may be thinking that this tenuous relationship is groundbreaking and never seen before, but you would be wrong. We played nice with the Cavs when we were trying to get into the ACC and they were very nice to our school after 4/16. Of course this never showed on the gridiron, but we don't have to let them win a football game against us, just support them over Georgia Tech.
We don't play this weekend, because we are busy building the woodshed that we will be taking UNC behind next Thursday. So rooting for UVA won't impinge on any Hokie supporting.
I know it's not pleasant, but like they always say, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. And right now, the stars are aligning us with UVA. If it makes you feel any better, imagine VT as the USA, UVA as Russia, and GT as Germany. We have to unite forces to beat the evil Yellowjackets, but we sure as hell are going to go back to hating each other right after the game is over and then go to war a few years (weeks) later.
If it helps, you could get drunk on Saturday to help ease the pain. Really, really, really drunk.
