Hokie Basketball: The Blueprint to 20 Wins (and Game #2)

While the NEZ tends to focus primarily on football, we are actually very well rounded. We have no qualms about spewing inaccurate and poorly researched information on all kinds of different sports.

So now it's basketball season. The Hokies have come up short in the past few years, including losing an 11 am game to Baylor to finish our season last year.

But this year will be different. After the jump, our plan to make it back to the tourney...

----------------------

To be honest, we don't know much about our team at the moment (shocker, I know). But with Delany, Allen, JTT, Davila, and Hudson, we at least have a solid core of veteran guys. If they can play consistently to the talent we know they have, we should be just fine. The odds of that are not good, which has been our problem in the past few years.

----------------------

Our road to 20 wins:

Gimmies:

These are the games that we HAVE to win. Give up one of these, and we’ll be scrambling… like we usually do.

  • Brown (already in the bag wooo!)
  • UNCG
  • @ Campbell
  • Delaware
  • VMI
  • Charleston Southern
  • UMBC
  • Longwood
  • North Carolina Central

Wins: 9 out of 9

Games that we SHOULD win

These are the games that we are likely to be favored in. Sure, we won’t win them all, but taking 75% will go a long way.

  • Temple
  • Georgia
  • @ Penn State
  • Seton Hall
  • BC (x2)
  • UVA (x2)
  • Miami (x2)
  • NC State (x2)

Wins: 8 out of 12

Possibles

So here we sit at 17 wins. There are a few other winnable games on the schedule. Grabbing a few of these will all but lock up a tourney bid.

  • @ Iowa
  • Clemson
  • Wake Forest
  • @ Florida State
  • Maryland

Prayers

And if all that doesn’t pan out, we’ll have to win a few shockers.

  • UNC (x2)
  • @ Duke
  • @ Georgia Tech

So there’s the blueprint. Add to that one win in the ACC Tournament, and we're all set. Start packing your bags. We're going dancing!!

----------------------

Luke Minor Hero of the Game

Tonight, we play UNC-Greensboro. We don’t really know who to replace from the team, so we’ll be calling this the Luke Minor Hero of the Game.

Because why the hell not?

LET'S GO HOKIES!!

I disagree with this. There is no such "research" to be done by The NEZ. It's in our bylaws. If I catch you doing any research...

Have no fears. "Research" included looking up the basketball schedule.
