Gambling in the new year and a little past

Bowl Game Picks against the spread

Poinsettia Bowl
Utah (8-4) vs. Navy (8-4)

Site: Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego
Time: Dec 20th 9 p.m.

Line: Utah -9

Pick: Navy to cover

Navy will still be able to run the triple option with or without a coach. And playing in San Diego, which is home to a large naval base, will make Navy have the crowd advantage.

New Orleans Bowl
Florida Atlantic (7-5) vs. Memphis (7-5)

Site: Superdome, New Orleans
Time: Dec 21st 8 p.m.

The line: FAU – 2

Pick: Memphis

Since the line is only 2, I would take Memphis on the money line here. It not often you can say that a Conference USA team played a harder schedule but in this cause you can.

PapaJohns.com Bowl
Southern Miss (7-5) vs. Cincinnati (9-3)

Site: Legion Field, Birmingham, Ala.
Time: Dec 22nd 1 p.m.

Line: Cincinnati -11

Pick: Cincinnati to cover

Ben Mack and the Cincinnati offense will be too much for Southern Miss

New Mexico Bowl
Nevada (6-6) at New Mexico (8-4)

Site: University Stadium, Albuquerque.
Time: Dec 22nd 4:30 p.m.

Line: New Mexico – 3

Pick: Nevada

Though the game is being played in New Mexico’s home stadium I think Nevada can actually win this game straight up. The New Mexico star running back is ineligible for the game and New Mexico has lost its last 4 bowl games.

Las Vegas Bowl
BYU (10-2) vs. UCLA (6-6)

Site: Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas
Time: Dec 22nd 8 p.m.

Line: BYU -5.5

Pick: BYU to cover

I think this game will be closer than the experts think. But, UCLA has no coach and a underachieving team, so I like BYU.

Hawaii Bowl
Boise State (10-2) vs. East Carolina (7-5)

Site: Aloha Stadium, Honolulu
Time: Dec 23rd 8 p.m.

Line: BSU -10.5

Pick Boise State to cover

Both teams will not travel there well, and the kids might be distracted by the resort type atmosphere. But, oddly to say Boise State just has more talent at this point than ECU does.

Motor City Bowl
Central Michigan (8-5) vs. Purdue (7-5)

Site: Ford Field, Detroit
Time: Dec 26th 7:30 p.m.

Line: Purdue -9.5

Pick: CMU with the points

I like CMU here. Purdue hasn’t done much to impress me and I think, CMU QB, Dan LeFevour has a lot of upside when healthy.

Holiday Bowl
Arizona State (10-2) vs. Texas (9-3)

Site: Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego
Time: Dec 27th 8 p.m.

Line: Texas -1.5

Pick: ASU

This will be a great game maybe one of the best bowl games of the season. I like ASU, with the money line, in a tight shot out. Whatever the over is I would take that as well in this game.

Champs Sports Bowl
Boston College (10-3) vs. Michigan State (7-5)

Site: Citrus Bowl, Orlando.
Time: Dec 28th 5 p.m.

Line: Boston College -3

Pick: BC to cover

Boston College could win this game by 14. Thought Matt Ryan may be overrated (from watching him play) I have seen nothing from Michgan State this year to see how they are only 3 point dogs in this game to the 2nd team in the ACC.

Texas Bowl
TCU (7-5) vs. Houston (8-4)

Site: Reliant Stadium, Houston
Time: Dec 28th 8 p.m.

Line: TCU-3.5

Pick: Houston

No one will watch this game due to it being on the NFL Network. But, again a low point spread so I take the dog in the Money line. I don’t think that TCU can hand with Houston’s high powered 500+ yards a game offense.

Emerald Bowl
Oregon State (8-4) vs. Maryland (6-6)

Site: AT&T Park, San Francisco
Time: Dec 28th 8:30 p.m.

Line: Oregon State – 4.5

Pick: OSU to cover

Has anyone seen Maryland play this year. Anyone? If they have there is no chance this would only be a 4.5 point game. Maryland fans will not travel all the way to the opposite coast to watch a losing effort.

Meineke Car Care Bowl
Connecticut (9-3) vs. Wake Forest (8-4)

Site: Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, N.C.
Time: Dec 29th 1 p.m.

Line: Wake Forest -3.5

Pick: Connecticut with the points

Not too confident with the game being in Wake’s backyard to take Connecticut straight thought I feel that Connecticut is the better team. So the +3.5 helps just in case it’s a close game which it has every chance to be.

Liberty Bowl
UCF (10-3) vs. Mississippi State (7-5)

Site: Liberty Bowl, Memphis
Time: Dec 29th 4:30 p.m.

Line: UCF -3

Pick: UCF to cover

The number 1 running back in all the land will be too much for Miss State to handle.

Alamo Bowl
Penn State (8-4) vs. Texas A&M (7-5)

Site: Alamodome, San Antonio
Time: Dec 29th 8 p.m.

Line: Penn State -5.5

Pick: Texas A&M

I am a gambling man and like Texas A&M straight up here. Almost a home game for the Aggies and Penn State has not shown up for any big game this season. And maybe just maybe the Aggies would like to impress their new coach Mike Sherman.

Independence Bowl
Alabama (6-6) vs. Colorado (6-6)

Site: Independence Stadium, Shreveport, La.
Time: Dec 30th 8 p.m.

Line: Alabama – 3.5

Pick: Alabama to cover

Nick Saban will go down to his old stomping ground of Louisiana and get his first bowl victory as coach of the Crimson Tide.

Armed Forces Bowl
California (6-6) vs. Air Force (9-3)

Site: Amon G. Carter Stadium, Fort Worth, Texas
Time: Dec 31st 12:30 p.m.

Line: Cal -4

Pick: Cal to cover

I have already taken one armed services team I would feel dirty taking them both.

Sun Bowl
Oregon (8-4) vs. USF (9-3)

Site: Sun Bowl, El Paso, Texas
Time: Dec 31st 2 p.m.

Line: USF-6.5

Pick: USF to cover

No Dennis Dickson equals no chance for the crazy uniformed Ducks.

Humanitarian Bowl
Fresno State (8-4) vs. Georgia Tech (7-5)

Site: Bronco Stadium, Boise, Idaho
Time: Dec 31st 2 p.m.

Line: Georgia Tech -4.5

Pick: Fresno State with the points

Fresno State plays on that blue turf every other year. Georgia Tech couldn’t move the ball with their old coach and their new coach will not institute the triple option till next year. So the battle of the blue turf goes to Fresno State this year.

Music City Bowl
Kentucky (7-5) vs. Florida State (7-5)

Site: LP Field, Nashville
Time: Dec 31st 4 p.m.

Line: Unknown

Pick: Kentucky to cover

Unless the line is plus 21 I would take Kentucky. With no line on the board yet because 25 FSU players will be suspended the smart bet is Kentucky no matter what, well almost.

Insight Bowl
Indiana (7-5) vs. Oklahoma State (6-6)

Site: Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe, Ariz.
Time: Dec 31st 6 p.m.

Line: Oklahoma State -4.5

Pick: OSU to cover

Indiana is a nice story and the players did a nice job getting to a bowl game to honor their late coach but I think the storybook season ends in Arizona.

Chick-fil-A Bowl
Clemson (9-3) vs. Auburn (8-4)

Site: Georgia Dome, Atlanta
Time: Dec 31st 7:30 p.m.

Line: Clemson -2.5

Pick: Clemson to cover

It is hard to figure out which Auburn team will show up and it seems like Clemson’s run offense was just hitting its stride near the latter half of the season.

Outback Bowl
Tennessee (9-4) vs. Wisconsin (9-3)

Site: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa
Time: Jan 1st 11 a.m.

Line: Tennessee -4

Pick: Tennessee to cover

The lack of offense by Wisconsin will catch up with them against the Volunteers, which should be SEC Champions right now.

Cotton Bowl
Missouri (11-2) vs. Arkansas (8-4)

Site: Cotton Bowl, Dallas
Time: Jan 1st 11:30 a.m.

Line: Missouri – 3.5

Pick: Missouri to cover

Missouri and Chase Daniel will take out their anger from not making a BCS game out on the coach less Razorbacks.

Gator Bowl
Virginia (9-3) vs. Texas Tech (8-4)

Site: Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, Jacksonville
Time: Jan 1st 1 p.m.

Line: Texas Tech -5.5

Pick: Texas Tech to cover

UVA likes to play and win close games but in order to keep this game close UVA will have to find an offense which they have been searching for all year. Texas Tech is too explosive for UVA to keep up in this game.

Capital One Bowl
Florida (9-3) vs. Michigan (8-4)

Site: Citrus Bowl, Orlando
Time: Jan 1st 1 p.m.

Line: Florida -10.5

Pick: Florida to cover

If Tim Tebow’s hand is healthy to play then Florida should have no problem in this game but if he can’t maybe a closer look should be taken the Michigan way.

Rose Bowl
USC (10-2) vs. Illinois (9-3)

Site: Rose Bowl, Pasadena, Calif.
Time: Jan 1st 4:30 p.m.

Line: USC -13.5

Pick: Illinois with the points

Illinois has no business being in this game. But, I have not seen enough offense out of USC to beat Juice Williams by 14.

Sugar Bowl
Georgia (10-2) vs. Hawaii (12-0)

Site: Louisiana Superdome, New Orleans
Time: Jan 1st 8:30 p.m.

Line: Georgia -11

Pick: Hawaii with the points

The game will be the Georgia D against Colt Brennan’s offense. Georgia might be able to win the game but they won’t be able to stop the 4 and 5 wide formations from Hawaii all game.

Fiesta Bowl
Oklahoma (11-2) vs. West Virginia (10-2)

Site: University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Ariz.
Time: Jan 2nd 8 p.m.

Line: Oklahoma – 6.5

Pick: Oklahoma to cover

With R Rod gone this might be the last time anyone sees Slaton in a college uniform or the run option from WVU. WVU without their coach maybe without Pat White will be no match for Sam Bradford and Oklahoma.

Orange Bowl
Virginia Tech (11-2) vs.
Kansas (11-1)

Site: Dolphin Stadium, Miami
Time: Jan 3rd 8 p.m.

Line: Virginia Tech -3.5

Pick: Virginia Tech to cover

Since Kansas did not have to play Oklahoma this year, the Hokies defense is by far the toughest they have faced all season. The Hokies will contain the Kansas offense and Glennon and Tyrod will do enough to cover the spread.

International Bowl
Rutgers (7-5) vs. Ball State (7-5)

Site: Rogers Centre, Toronto
Time: Jan 5th Noon

Line: Rutgers -10

Pick: Rutgers to cover

Who plays a bowl game in Canada? Ball State gives up 200 yards on the ground a game so Ray Rice will run, run, and run some more.

GMAC Bowl
Tulsa (9-4) vs. Bowling Green (8-4)

Site: Ladd Peebles Stadium, Mobile, Ala.
Time: Jan 6th 8 p.m.

Line: Tulsa -4.5

Pick: Bowling Green with points

I am not sure who will win this game all I know is the teams wont be able to stop the opposing offenses. Take the Over.

BCS National Championship Game
Ohio State (11-1) vs. LSU (11-2)

Site: Superdome, New Orleans
Time: Jan 6th 8 p.m.

Line: LSU – 5.5

Pick: LSU to cover

Why does it seem that Miami, USC, or LSU get to play relative home games for National Championships every year? Ohio State could not deal with a fast team in Illinois and LSU is a lot faster than the Illini. I have LSU in a slaughter.
